A Guide to MSUK Permitted Tyre Lists
Navigating the Motorsport UK (MSUK) “Blue Book” can be a challenge. When building a car or entering a new championship, knowing exactly which rubber is legal is critical.
Chapter 8, Appendix 4 defines the specific lists of permitted tyres. It is the Competitor’s responsibility to check these requirements against their specific Event or Championship regulations.
This guide breaks down the lists to help you spot the differences and find the correct tyre for your discipline without getting bogged down in the fine print.
The Lists Explained
LIST 1A: Production Tyres Suitable for Competition
What are they?
These are standard production tyres designed that are generally designed for road use. They are hard-wearing and provide safe grip in the wet and the dry. All the tyres in this list must be road legal and E-Marked.
Who uses them?
Production Saloon championships, Sports Car racing and various sprint and hillclimb series.

Popular Tyres in List 1A:
- Continental: SportContact 7
- Michelin: Pilot Sport 4, Pilot Sport 5 & Pilot Sport Cup 2*

*Only applicable when using an OE fitting.
LIST 1B: Sports/Uprated Tyres
What are they?
These are the “Track Day” or “Semi-Slick” tyres. They usually have stiffer sidewalls and softer compounds for maximum grip. These tyres aren’t allowed to be re-grooved and whilst some of these are available in different compounds, only E-Marked tyres are valid.

LIST 1C: Specialist Competition Tyres
What are they?
The tyres on this list don’t have to be road legal, feature an E-Mark or meet modern tyre labeling laws (usually due to noise or rolling resistance).
Who uses them?
They are generally used in championships that use a control tyre to ensure a level playing field.

Popular Tyres in List 1C:
- Dunlop: Direzza DZ03G
- Hankook: Ventus RS-4
